Where is the Good Samaritan?
June 6, 2008
I stumbled on this unbelievable story today on aol.com. As a man was crossing the street in Hartford, Connecticut he was hit by a vehicle and left lying in the street. For a good minute no one did anything to help him but just ignored him and left him lying there.
Unbelievable.
Anyway, I warn you the video may be a little disturbing to watch; but if you want, you can see it here.
That’s a pretty crazy video. I’m actually not terribly surprised that nobody helped. That kind of thing happens from time to time. It’s the whole “Genovese Syndrome.” Very interesting topic and I can’t remember the book I read about it, but here’s the skinny from wiki:
Genovese Syndrome
Wow. That is VERY interesting. I’ve not heard of that before, but it somehow makes sense. Thanks for sharing.
That’s why you have to be very aware of your surroundings. If someone is in trouble, no matter how many people are around, try and help them. It only takes one person to break the apathy of the crowd. As soon as one person steps in, it will spur others to follow, especially if you are leading (calling others to action, and directing them) while helping…
I couldn’t agree more, Chris.
